The Mechanosynthesis group is highlighted by MIT News and the Materials Processing Center! Specifically, John Hart is featured as a pioneer in nanomanufacturing. In addition, Postdoc Mostafa Bedewy is featured for showing complex competition between chemical activation and mechanical forces in growing CNT forests. Published research by Bedewy, with Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering A. John Hart and colleagues, showed that better production methods for aligned carbon nanotubes will require control of both collective chemical and mechanical factors governing their growth and self-organization. Last, Ryan Oliver is featured for his new technique of Maskless Fluidic Lithography that allows creation of unique shapes in a liquid polymer such as PEG-DA by exposing it to patterned ultraviolet light, a process known as photo-polymerization.
